Background Screening Program.

1. A new criteria has been added to the list of offenses that are being screened for. The new criteria is “Two or more criminal convictions within the past five years and/or three or more criminal convictions as an adult.” Being able to have the National Screening Panel investigate someone with multiple convictions provides USATF with the ability to perform a broader review of the content of the applicant’s background check report. For example, many offenses are often plea bargained and as a result they are downgraded to a charge that may not specifically meet one of the existing offenses on the USATF list. The criteria will allow the National Screening Panel the ability to ascertain with more clarity whether the applicant should be entrusted to participate in USATF club practices.

2. You may have recently been experiencing trouble updating the Coach/Volunteers in Good Standing via the “Process Background Check” link. This issue has been fixed.

3. Just a reminder that we do have a subsidy program for Associations to be reimbursed up to $10 per background check. Information on the subsidy program is available at https://www.usatf.org/mgmt/assoc/forms/BackgroundCheckProgram/Forms/AssociationSubsidyProgram_BackgroundCheckProgram.pdf We ask that all 2008 reimbursements be submitted no later than January 15.
