New Certification Tests are On-line
Here are the new 2009-2012 Officials Certification Application and the tests
for Association, National, and Master Level Officials. At this time, tests are
available for Track & Field, Long Distance Running, Race Walking, and
Measures & Weights. Information on Master Level Referee's will be posted
here when it comes out.
Everyone who wishes to be re-certified as a track and field official needs to
complete the Certification Application and the Association Level Test. Those who
are only involved in LDR and race-walking need only take those tests.
Re-certifications should be submitted as soon as possible in order to be
considered for USATF National Championships.
In general, If you feel you should be a National Level Official, you need to
have officiated as an Association Level Official for at least 2 years, be
capable of being a head event official within the Association, and take the
National Test. National Level referees need not take a separate test, but should
be able to be a referee at an Association meet.
If you feel you should be a Master Level Official, you need to have
officiated as a National Level Official for at least 3 years, in at least 3 of
the 5 categories listed below, be capable of being a head event official at a
National meet, and take the Master Test.
- USATF Junior Olympics or Youth
- USATF Open
- USATF Masters
- High School (NFHS)
- NCAA
If you have any questions about what level you should be certified at, please
ask me, and don't be modest! There are other criteria for promotion, but most of
you meet them.
Please send the completed application, answer sheets that apply to your
current level of officiating, ethics form, resume, and a check for $25.00 made
out to NC-USATF, to:

Anyone wishing to have a new picture on their new cards must send me a new
digital photo, or live with the one currently on their cards for another 4
years. No certifications will be processed without photos this time around, so
if your card is blank, send me a digital photo.

Great Resource - Here is a link to a website put together by Bill Buttermore, an official from Ohio. On it, there are forms that he updates each year which compare event rules from all the various rule books side by side - IAAF, USATF, NCAA, and NFHS. It is a great resource.
